The municipality of Sala Monferrato is located at an altitude of 276m and it has 386 inhabitants.

The name (probable Lombard orgin) may come from the presence of a place for supplies of the Middle Age, a storage-hall inside the village. The big access door of the ricetto (small fortified area) is visible still today. This defense of the fortress assumed with the time the shape of an elegant palace in neo-Gothic style.

In recent years Nanni Ricordi (1932-2012), founder of “Dischi Ricordi”, talent scout, “inventor” of singer-songwriters as Gaber, Jannacci, Conte, De Andrè, Paoli, Vanoni, moved to Sala Monferrato.

Among vineyards, woods and meadows you can follow the path n°740, denominated “Sala Monferrato tra Santi e Vigne”, which belongs to the circuit “Camminare il Monferrato”.
