Cereseto is a municipality with 468 inhabitants located 280m meters above sea level.
The name Ceresa is one of the variants of Cerasa, the dialectal term indicating the cherry tree and its fruit, which is very widespread in this place.
Cereseto is dominated by a majestic castle with many towers. At the end of 1500, the village was ceded by Vincenzo I di Gonzaga to Germanico Sarvognan, builder of the cittadella of Casale Monferrato. After devastations of 1600 the castle was reduced and restored, and in 1912 rebuilt from the foundations in a late 15th century Piedmontese style. Today the castle is in excellent condition; the external part was brought back to its splendor in 1997.
A few steps from Cereseto there is the well-known Sanctuary Madonna di Crea.
